What happens when you blend the down-to-earth vibe of The Town with the natural wonders of the great outdoors? The Most Lit. Summer. Ever. Our overnight camp gives middle-school-aged youth the chance to challenge themselves, build community, and connect with nature. Campers spend their days zip-lining, tackling ropes courses, kayaking on the lake, practicing archery, and hiking scenic mountain trails. Evenings are filled with campfire songs, storytelling and stargazing. To round out their adventure, campers finish with a two-night coastal camping trip, where they explore tide pools, learn outdoor skills, and experience the beauty of California’s coastline. At the end of the experience, many campers say they feel like they’ve been transported to another dimension—a place where they can be themselves, an opportunity to escape what they’re normally exposed to in life and a way to feel connected with Mother Nature and their community like never before.

Meet "Aquarius"
Zoë, known at camp as “Aquarius,” first joined Camp Phoenix as a bright-eyed camper in 2017. She quickly fell in love with the songs, the claps, the traditions, and the tight-knit community that made camp feel like home. Over the years, her role at camp evolved—from camper to mentor to Head Counselor—but her passion for the Camp Phoenix spirit never wavered. In 2024, Aquarius took her leadership to the next level. Inspired by her deep connection to camp, she applied for and won a grant from Oakland’s ReCAST Initiative to create a film about Camp Phoenix. Her project brings our camp’s story to life, amplifying the voices of campers and showing the world what makes this place so special. For Aquarius, camp isn’t just a summer escape—it’s a place where young leaders rise, where creativity thrives, and where lifelong friendships are made. Her journey is proof of how Camp Phoenix empowers campers to dream big, step up, and make an impact. We can’t wait to see where her leadership takes her next!

“Attending Camp Phoenix was well worth it for my daughter. At first, I was a little skeptical because of the thought of my daughter being away from home for several weeks. But my husband attended overnight camps growing up and he was also in the military. So he made me feel comfortable with the idea that being away from home would be a great experience for my daughter—and it was. My daughter formed necessary relationships with the counselors who provided her with a strong support system. She was able to express her feelings and problem-solve. And the Family Day experience brought it all together for us. When she got back home, I saw leadership qualities in her that I hadn’t seen before she attended Camp Phoenix.”
